Citizenship

Portugal accepts his nationals to have several different citizenships.

In Portugal you can get citizenship by acquisition or naturalisation:

  • Citizenship by Investment (after 5 years of Residency by Investment);
  • Citizenship by being descendant of Sephardic Jews;
  • Citizenship by marriage;
  • Citizenship by birth.

By having the Portuguese citizenship, you will have the right to freely live in any EU countries. This passport also grants you many advantages on the visa process in 186 countries around the world.

To be eligible for the Portuguese Citizenship Program, you must:

  • Be more than 18 years old;
  • Have been resident in Portugal for the last five years;
  • Pass a Portuguese language exam (A2 international level);
  • Not have been convicted for any crime with a penalty of prison equal or with more than one year accordingly with the Portuguese law.
